Dr. Juliet Skinner MRCOG MRCPI: Medical Director
After being awarded the Barbados scholarship, Dr. Juliet Skinner completed her undergraduate medical training at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Women’s health was always of special interest to her from early on in her training and she specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr. Skinner worked in the Coombe Women’s Hospital and was at that time the youngest doctor to ever be appointed the position of Assistant Master of this prestigious Dublin maternity hospital. After completing her specialisation in Dublin she continued as Perinatal Research Fellow. During this time she developed and evaluated a number of ultrasound diagnostic tests both for fertility and for obstetrics. In 1999 she returned home to Barbados where she dedicated her time to expanding the medical care options to women on the island and within the Caribbean. Fertility and IVF then became the main focus of her interest.
Dr. Skinner was instrumental is developing Barbados Fertility Centre from a start up unit with the goal of becoming one of the best in the world. From the beginning the mission was to create a centre, which would maximise each and every couple’s chance of success by offering the latest technology and the best facilities and by ensuring attention to every detail.
Dr. Skinner is a Consultant Gynaecologist who leads the team at Barbados Fertility Centre.
Dr. Roberta Corona, MD: Consultant IVF Physician
Dr. Corona completed her undergraduate medical training in Italy. Women’s health was always of special interest to her and after being awarded the Socrates Scholarship Dr. Corona completed her training at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where she specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
After completing her specialization in Leuven, she continued as a clinical and research Fellow in endoscopic pelvic surgery and endometriosis at the University Hospital of Leuven, where she was later appointed as consultant to provide clinical and surgical services in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Fertility and to teach and supervise medical students and registrars.
During this time she had the privilege of working with international renowned experts in different fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology, being involved in several experimental clinical trials and basic research projects. She also developed her own research project that resulted in a PhD thesis in Biomedical Sciences, in several international publications and lectures. The aims of this research project were mainly to promote and increase quality of surgery and adhesions prevention, a post-operative complication that still strongly compromises the fertility and the quality of life of women.
After the achievement of the PhD she was appointed as consultant at the prestigious Reproductive Medicine Centre at the Free University of Brussels to provide treatment of infertility, fertility preservation in oncologic patients, andrology, and as an established endoscopic surgeon she was in charge of the Reproductive Surgery Unit. Thanks to this extended and international experience, she has come to understand and respect the diverse cultures, traditions and values of so many different people and patients.

Anna Hosford, RGN : Clinic Director
Anna, originally from Ireland, has had extensive fertility experience from both sides of the Atlantic. After completing her nursing training in Dublin, Ireland, she moved to San Francisco, USA where she worked with Dr. Christo Zouves and Dr. Geoffrey Sher in Pacific Fertility Center. Anna spent many years managing the daily clinical operations at PFC and specialised in coordinating overseas couples for IVF cycles. Anna returned home in 1999 where she introduced the high American standard of fertility care to an Irish start up unit. She managed this for 4 years before getting the opportunity to create her own fertility clinic in Barbados with Dr. Juliet Skinner. Throughout Anna’s 20+ years exposure to the pain infertile couples experience, her dream has always been to create the ultimate fertility care within a reduced stress environment. This dream became a reality in Barbados as it shows in our high success rates.
Katerina Arvaniti : Laboratory Director
Katerina, comes from Athens, Greece and acquired her Bachelor degree at the Biology Department of Patras University. She started working with the team of professor Dr Th. Mantzavinos – one of the pioneers in IVF field in Greece – as Clinical Embryologist and later as Lab Director at one of the biggest and most respected IVF centres in Athens. Having worked in the field of Human Reproduction for 25 years, she has become familiar with and practiced all techniques related to IVF. Attending regularly the annual meeting of European Society of Human Reproduction (ESHRE) and biennial Alpha International Conference of Clinical Embryologists, she is aware of any existing innovative techniques. She took part at the workshop on Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) at Medical Faculty of Dutch speaking Free University in Brussels in 2002 and she got accreditation as Senior Clinical Embryologist by European Society of Human Reproduction (ESHRE) in 2008. Additionally, she is well experienced in the cutting edge technology in terms of IVF lab as vitrification of oocytes and blastocysts as well as blastocyst biopsy for PGS and PGD in order to give a patient the best chances of success. Being very particular and dedicated to her job she considers each patient a unique case ensuring the best results. Katerina always welcomes new challenges and joining the team at Barbados Fertility Clinic as Lab Director in 2014 and working overseas in a well-equipped lab and pleasant environment seemed like the perfect opportunity to her.
Rachel De Gale : Manager
Since joining the clinic in 2004, Rachel has been a member of the senior management of the Clinic and is a problem solver and results oriented individual. In her very diverse role, Rachel is responsible for the finances, strategic development of policies and company infrastructure, accreditation and human resource management, all to support this mission driven organisation. Rachel promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement and is committed to the highest quality and standard of patient care. She positively and productively works with management, staff and suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the clinic and is passionate about BFC remaining a leader in the IVF field.
Natalia Makchzoumi - Clinical Embryologist
Natalia Makchzoumi is our outstanding Embryologist, who trained as a biologist and realised very early on in her studies that she was fascinated with human reproduction, so she went on to focus her post graduate studies on assisted reproduction.
Natalia has also studied infertility and pregnancy psychology, which she feels helps her in understanding the anxiety associated with IVF treatment.
Natalia is dedicated to providing excellent patient care and is honoured to have our patients trust in her work.
Helen Rolleston: Head IVF Nurse Coordinator
Helen is the Head IVF nurse coordinator here at BFC. Helen joined the team in January 2012.
Helen is an Australian trained registered nurse and midwife with more than 30 years’ experience working in various specialties such as Operating Rooms, Midwifery and IVF nursing. Helen worked with a large IVF facility in Sydney, Australia as the IVF Nurse coordinator and Nurse Manager overseeing the main clinic and 3 satellite clinics for 6 years prior to moving ‘off-shore’ to Barbados.
The opportunity for a position came up here in Barbados and her decision to take up the challenge has been a most rewarding one. Her daily work includes liaising directly with patient inquiries throughout the Caribbean, USA, Canada and the UK, monitoring patients for treatment planning, ultrasounds, procedures and general patient care.
Helen is proud to be working with a highly professional team here at BFC ans uses her many years of experience to ensure the best possible care for each of our patients to provide them with the dream of a family.
Dionne Holmes: IVF Case Coordinator
Dionne is the IVF Case Coordinator at Barbados Fertility Centre. She runs the Donor/Recipient program. Dionne has worked with Donors and Recipients for close to a decade. She first started out as a Donor/Recipient Support for an international donor agency where she worked with clinics around the world in countries such as Canada, India, Thailand and Barbados. Dionne joined Barbados Fertility Centre in October 2011 with a wide knowledge of international donor and recipient support. She enjoys working with a great team here at BFC offering superior service and individualised care to our patients.
Emma Brewster: Theatre Nurse
As theatre nurse, Emma is responsible for assisting during surgical procedures as well as monitoring and recovering patients. Originally from the UK where she trained and obtained her Diploma in Nursing in 1999, Emma joined BFC in 2011 with a wealth of theatre knowledge and experience immediately putting patients at ease with her caring nature.Her greatest pleasure is when patients send in pictures or come to visit with their babies knowing that she played a role in making their dreams come true.
Lyn-Marie Hunte-Belgrave: Medical Assistant
As Medical Assistant, Lyn-Marie has many roles, such as performing all phlebotomy services needed on patients before and during cycle, assisting both doctors and nurses with patient procedures. Lyn was born in Barbados but furthered her studies in New York where she obtained her certificate as a Medical Office Assistant in 2010. Lyn-Marie worked as an MA in NYC for 3 years, including working at United Cerebral Palsy where she took care of many patients with mental and physical disabilities. This experience taught her compassion and the importance of offering emotional support to all and having a positive attitude – these are traits she has brought with her and shows all patients she comes into contact with here at BFC.
Cyrilene Austrie : Head Receptionist
Cyrilene, originally from Barbados, is the Head Receptionist at Barbados Fertility Centre and has been with the clinic since it opened its doors. Cyrilene is an expert in this field. She worked as a legal secretary in a busy, successful firm in the UK. Cyrilene returned to Barbados in 1999 after many years in the UK and has since worked with Dr. Skinner in the medical field exclusively. Cyrilene manages the front desk with precision and efficiency to ensure our couples get prompt medical and administrative attention. Her warm and sincere greeting has become her trademark.
Rhonda Greaves: Finance Administrator
Rhonda, a Barbadian, worked with UK expatriates at the Department for International Development at the British High Commission for 21 years. She started there as a Receptionist and moved up through the ranks to Secretary and then to Network Assistant. Rhonda joined Barbados Fertility Centre in 2005 and brings to the team a wealth of experience in dealing with members of the public, from Barbados, other Caribbean islands and the UK. She is proud to welcome patients to her beautiful Caribbean island home and is excellent at making patients feel at home and is very efficient at interacting with patients. Rhonda coordinates the financial quotes and payment receipts for all BFC patients and guides them through the financial steps of their fertility treatment.
Lauren Marshal M.A: Clinical Psychologist
Lauren is our Clinical Psychologist who trained at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. She returned home to Barbados in August 2006 and has been in private practice since.
Lauren leads the Psychological aspect of donor program as she counsels patients on this part of their treatment. She also heads up the Healthy Mind Body programme which is designed to help participants optimise their general health and well-being, as well as their reproductive health. The group teaches couples to build their health, learn to elicit the relaxation response and cope better with the stress created by infertility. It also teaches ways to reduce harmful thought patterns which can lead to depression and increase stress levels. Studies have shown that the effectiveness of the Healthy Mind Body Programme for infertility can be dramatic and can increase your chances significantly of a successful treatment.
Veronica Montgomery : Marketing Manager
Since 2004 Veronica has enjoyed keeping the lines of communication open between the medical team at BFC and the patients past, present and future. The ethos at BFC has always been to help infertility patients understand their condition and provide support through educational seminars and raising awareness through the media. Veronica is very proud to represent BFC and the dedicated team who have helped thousands of couples realise their dream of a family.
